Artist Statement

I believe it is very important to visually document our surroundings, so Documentary Photography has always been a natural interest. Too many times I have passed by intriguing scenes -- whether an old sign, abandoned building, or a kudzu-covered field -- and returned later, too late, to find an empty lot or polished surfaces. The opportunity to capture the age and individuality of a subject or landscape before it changes, or disappears altogether, is what makes photography magical for me.


Bio Document

Teresa M. Sims is an Atlanta based photographer born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  She received a BS in Photojournalism, from the University of Southern Mississippi, and shortly after moved to Atlanta, GA where she now practices fine art and documentary photography.

Ms. Sims has been very active in the Atlanta photographic community and served on the boards of organizations including the Atlanta Photography Group, Atlanta Celebrates Photography and Women in Focus.

Juror Anne Telford founding managing editor of Communication Arts awarded her an honorable mention in "Beauty: Camera Eye of the Beholder" an International Juried Online Photographic Exhibition Presented by Women In Photography International (WIPI) in 2005. Most recently, Jane Jackson, curator of the Sir Elton John Photography Collection selected her work for the Jane Jackson Selects show held at the APG Gallery.

Currently, her work can be found in various collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, March of Dimes ( Atlanta), City Hall of Decatur, Miller Gallman Developers, and Greenberg Traurig Associates.
